Big News ~ Expanding Our Adventures!

Dear friends,

It seems that with each year a new and wonderful opportunity presents itself.  Much of Elevation Science Institute’s success throughout its short tenure has come from recognizing good fortune and the flexibility and agility to take advantage of it.  Just such an opportunity has presented itself, which is why I am excited to reach out to you today.

The Cincinnati Museum Center (CMC) recently offered us the opportunity to run their Paleo Prep Lab, in much the same way that we have run the Academy’s Lab. With two enormous, fully-equipped, state-of-the-art laboratories and vast resources, this is an opportunity we simply cannot pass up.

Not only does this move present a solution to what has been an ongoing problem of having enough room to open gigantic fossil jackets and store specimens, but it allows us to introduce ourselves to a whole new population of people who may not know that they too can contribute to our research by joining us in the field. Over 1 million people visit the Cincinnati Museum Center each year, and we can’t wait to introduce them to Elevation Science’s dinosaurs!

Of course, this is not a ‘farewell’ to the Academy. The Academy remains a wonderful and valued strategic partner, and I’m so incredibly proud to be associated with this venerated institution. Instead, this move is an opportunity for us to focus on our exciting and ambitious programming initiatives. We will not be staffing the Fossil Prep Lab in the Academy any longer for now, so we will dearly miss regularly seeing the many wonderful volunteers that have dedicated so much of their time and talents to advance every aspect of our mission for the last several years there. They will keep that space active though, greeting visitors from around the world, showing them fossils we’ve collected on our summer expeditions to Montana, and inspiring them with stories of paleontology!

While this is a change in location, it is not a change in direction for the organization, but rather an expansion of our capabilities. Katie, our Fossil Prep Lab Manager, has already moved to Cincinnati (her hometown!) to get things up and running at the lab, while Devon and I will remain in the Philly area. Otherwise, everything else about our paleontology programming, in the field and online, will stay the same.

We are so very thankful for your support throughout our journey - we would not be in this position without your generosity over these last several years. The new partnership will help us elevate our programming and elevate the adventures of so many people to come!

Sincerely,

Jason P. Schein
